Tinker passed away August 25, 2004, 4 1/2 months after I adopted her. The night before she was fine. In the morning she ate as usual, just not as fast. I normally go home at noon to let the girls out and feed them lunch. Tinker didn't want to eat. That wasn't Tinker, and she seemed a little slow. I took her to the Vet and they began some tests. At the end of the day I was told she could be picked up. Her system was full so they gave her an enema which cleared her out and she seemed to be doing better. I put her in the back of the Jeep, she laid down and we headed home. Not more than 2 minutes down the road I turned around to pet her and her head fell over, she had passed away there in the truck as we were driving home. I rushed back to the vet and they tried to revive her with no luck.
Everyone was devastated.

3 Vets did a necropsy and sent tissue samples of the various organs to a lab for testing. No one could understand what happened and why she passed away like she did. All the major organs were fine for the most part for a dog her age. No blockage through her system yet nothing was passing on it's own. Days later we still had no answer. Nothing showed up that we could point a definite finger at.

We could only suspect that it was something neurological, perhaps a brain aneurysm, we'll never know. The only way to tell for sure would have been to remove her head, ship it to a lab and have the brain looked at. As much as I wanted to know what happened, I could not bring myself to do that to her. During her short life with me she did have numerous bouts of the wobbles. Not sure of the technical name but her head would wobble and shake uncontrollably for a few minutes. Sometimes diverting her attention or giving her a cookie would help, other times it wouldn't. She also out of the blue developed Diabetes Insipidus and her kidneys couldn't control the water going through her. We got that under control with meds and after a few weeks that seemed to go away for the most part. Shortly after that her system seemed to shut down and she passed away.

Without knowing her background history and what happened to her before Dobie Rescue got to her, one can only imagine what happened to her or what her living conditions were. I do know from checking with people who know the area she came from that it was a "Rough" area.

She was cremated and her ashes are now here with all my other girls. She was a beautiful girl with a wonderful personality.

Always on the alert, looking for anything to move, especially squirrels.

A quiet moment

She loved her stuffed toys, especially the squeeky ones.

So much to see, so much to watch

How could you not love a face like that?

This was shot the night before she passed away.

Thanks to all those with the various Dobie groups who rescued her, took care of her, and allowed me to adopt and love her. It meant the world to me to be able to have her in my life, even as brief a time as it was. Thanks to Gary V, Jude, Helen, Dianne, Leigh, Birdie & Valerie for all your letters and support.
